We pull real conversations with real women figuring out How to CEO everyday.
This week…
Challenge: What should I expect from a person that I want to hire in order to help me with managing all my people? I don’t want to deal with it anymore and need help with the marketing team.
Coach response: The CEO gets to have whatever job she wants to have. If your desire is to have external lead generation, brand awareness and building relationships to generate revenue, let’s get clear on what you want to receive support with internally from someone else.
Be careful with thinking “I don’t want to do ___”. It’s important that you realize as CEO, you don’t get to close the doors on any part of your business. Now if you are saying that you don’t want to be sitting kneecap to kneecap crunching through the really tactical parts of your work, I understand what you are saying. I just want you to be conscious of your language because it matters. You will always have oversight of performance and if you hire a manager, you will still have oversight of them which means oversight of their people, even if you are not “in it” everyday.
Questions to ask yourself:
What work needs to be done?
What responsibilities do you want to keep?
What responsibilities do you want to give away to someone else?
Who will manage the performance of this role?
Who will manage the performance of others doing the work?
If you have someone you believe could be a good fit, use her as an inspiration piece. Don’t assume that it’s her job in the creation. Create what you need and then go to her to see if it’s really what she wants, but stick with what you need. Write the job as you want it to be and not as she is today.
You may feel like our client…you just want to hire someone to deal with all the management issues of the team. We understand…BUT you have to learn and get good at the basics so that you can manage the person you hire to manage the people. 😀 Thank goodness How to CEO is OPEN! 🎉 Join now…the first 10 people will receive Voxer “Bat Phone” access to Kris for the first 30 days of the program.
